Лес защитный — естественная или посаженная древесно-кустарниковая растительность, сохраняемая или культивируемая в целях создания благоприятной природной среды для жизни людей, в регулировании водного режима, предупреждения эрозии почв, создания условий для жизни ценных животных (например, рыбоохранный лес на нерестовых реках) и др. задач, включая защиту технических и строительных объектов от заноса снегом, песком, пылью и т.д.

Отличают средообразующие, ресурсоохранные и объектозащитные леса.
