Денитрификация

Денитрификация — 1) разрушение группой почвенных и водных бактерий солей азотной кислоты (нитратов) до нитритов, молекулярного азота и аммиака, что приводит к обеднению почвы и нежелательно для сельского хозяйства;

2) энергетический процесс окисления микроорганизмами органических веществ в анаэробных условиях, при котором конечными акцепторами («приёмниками») электронов служат нитраты, нитриты и сульфаты. В таком понимании денитрификация называется анаэробным дыханием.
