Рефугиум

Рефугиум — участок земной поверхности, где один вид, а чаще группа видов живого пережила неблагоприятный период геологического времени, в течение которого на больших пространствах эти формы жизни исчезали.

Как правило, предполагается, что вид не только сохранился в рефугиуме, но и вновь распространился оттуда на более широком пространстве. Например, Закавказье — ледниковый рефугиум многих растений и связанных с ними животных.
